Know our Chairperson, Shri Vivek Jeph (Retd. IFS Officer - Indian Foreign Services)
Mr. Vivek Jeph was born on August 13, 1962, in the quaint village of Nayabas, situated in the Sikar District of Rajasthan. He embarked on his educational journey at the DAV Higher Secondary School in Ganganagar, Rajasthan, and went on to acquire a Bachelor’s degree in Science from Maharaja College, Jaipur. He deepened his academic pursuit with a Master’s degree in History from Rajasthan University, Jaipur, and further complemented his education with a Bachelor of Law (LLB) during his service tenure.
In 1985, Mr. Jeph’s distinguished career in the Foreign Services commenced following his success in the UPSC examination. He officially joined the Ministry of External Affairs in 1988, marking the beginning of a series of pivotal roles he would embody. His diverse contributions spanned various domains such as Political, Economic, Commerce, Accounts, Administration, Consular and Labour Affairs, with a special focus on the Indian diaspora, Protocol, and Hajj. Mr. Jeph is especially noted for his extensive public relations work addressing labour issues, passport and visa services, and matters concerning the global Indian diaspora.
A pivotal segment of his career involved facilitating student exchange programs between India and numerous foreign nations. His tenure as Under Secretary for Bhutan was distinguished by an invitation from the Prime Minister of Bhutan, recognizing him as a special guest for one month — a testament to the quality and impact of his service. Significant strides were made under his stewardship in the Haj Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, where he implemented numerous reforms to assist Indian Muslims in performing the Hajj.
His tenure at the Consulate General of India in Jeddah was characterized by his unwavering commitment to the Indian community in Saudi Arabia. Mr. Jeph’s efforts in citizen welfare were exemplary, particularly in providing critical medical aid to an Indian citizen from Jodhpur who suffered a brain hemorrhage. His proactive initiatives helped repatriate over 50 Indian prisoners daily in KSA and retrieve three years’s worth of unpaid salary for a distressed software engineer from Hyderabad. These contributions earned him unprecedented accolades from both print and electronic media, making him the first officer to receive such recognition.
As the Regional Passport Officer in Jaipur from January 2014 to September 15, 2017, Mr. Jeph spearheaded the launch of nine Post Office Passport Seva Kendras and one Passport Seva Kendra in Udaipur, revolutionizing the passport application process. He led district- level awareness campaigns and state-wide digital service seminars, directly engaging with the public to resolve issues effectively and enhance service delivery.
